Choreographer, Actress, Dancer
Debbie Allen has received much acclaim for her work as producer, director, choreographer, actress, and dancer. Adding to her list of talents, Allen has just published her first children's book Brothers of the Knight.
Her production credits include the Academy Award nominated feature film "Amistad," for which she and fellow producers Stephen Spielberg and Colin Wilson have been awarded a Beacon of Justice Award and a Producer's Guild Vision Award. In addition, Allen captivated audiences and received rave reviews with her one-woman show "Harriet's Return" at the Geffen Playhouse in Los Angeles.
Allen's work on the hit series, "Fame," "Fresh Prince" and "A Different World" established her as one of the most sought-after director/producers in the television industry. In addition, Debbie holds the distinction of having choreographed the Academy Awards for five consecutive years.
Having lost her father, grandfather, uncle and aunt to heart disease, Debbie understands the need to live a heart-healthy lifestyle. As a national campaign spokesperson for the American Heart Association's Heart disease in women Center program, she urges all Americans to do the same by exercising regularly and eating a healthy diet.
Allen lives in Los Angeles with her husband, Norman Nixon, and their two children, Vivian Nichole and Norman, Jr.
