"On the road to life there are many paths& some twist, some turn, some dip, some curve. As long as you keep your focus, your destination is obtainable." Brenda Good
Heart disease in women Center was developed for busy women like you. The program shows you how to add physical activity to your lifestyle through simple, practical strategies. No gym membership or expensive equipment is required. A good pair of walking shoes and a great attitude are all you need.
Heart disease in women Center is a self-paced, 12-week program. We encourage you to go through it in the weekly sequence to learn skills that will help you stay active and motivated. It's OK to stop and restart again. The important thing is to keep moving. As you progress through the program, you'll learn to eat more nutritiously and understand that physical activity and better eating habits help in proper weight management.
What's the goal of Heart disease in women Center?
The goal is for each participant to meet the American Heart Association's recommendation for physical activity - to ACCUMULATE 30 minutes per day on 5 or more days a week. You can break your physical activity sessions into as few as three 10-minute segments. Research shows that short sessions that total 30 minutes can still give your body cardiovascular benefits.
Why was Heart disease in women Center created?
The American Heart Association created Heart disease in women Center to focus specifically on women's unique physical activity needs. Lack of physical activity is a major risk factor for heart disease and stroke, the No. 1 and No. 3 killers of American women. Women especially need to increase their physical activity because studies show that they begin to become less active during teenage years - and tend to remain so later in life. A recent study conducted for our organization found that less than one in four women identify not exercising as a major cause for heart disease.
